Dana White Discusses His Thoughts On Drug Testing

In both mixed martial arts and boxing, performance enhancing drugs are a serious issue with deep repercussions for fighters caught using. In recent history, the issue has greatly impacted a number of high profile fighters and promotions: Josh Barnett's positive test acted as the catalyst for the demise of Affliction, Sean Sherk was stripped of his belt following a positive result, and testing procedures are holding up a highly anticipated boxing match between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. In the press conference following this weekend's "UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva," UFC President Dana White discussed his thoughts on modern drug testing practices and their impact on fighting sports.

UFC 108 Staff Predictions

This saturday's "UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva" pay-per-view event, taking place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., will mark the first event of 2010. This card has seen more fighters back out with injury than any other card in the promotion's history, forcing UFC matchmakers to find fighters to come in and perform on short notice. Through all the injuries though, they have managed to put together a great card that is full of, with what should be, competitive matchups. Spike TV will air two preliminary fights commercial free starting at 9pm (est) that will feature Martin Kampmann vs. Jacob Volkmann and Dan Lauzon vs. Cole Miller.

“Strikeforce: Evolution” Gate, Attendance and Fighter Salaries

Saturday's "Strikeforce: Evolution" card saw 14,749 fans attend the HP Pavilion to watch an exciting night of fights in the promotion's home city of San Jose, Calif. The California State Athletic Commission confirmed the attendance numbers and a live gate of $633,674.50. "Evolution" is now the third-highest attended card in the promotion's short history.

Dana White Talks Lesnar’s Condition And Heavyweight Title Picture

Following his October 27 withdrawal from a heavyweight title defense at UFC 106, Brock Lesnar (4-1) has remained fairly silent in regards to his health and the future of his fighting career. Dana White recently expanded on the fighter's condition and what might happen with the heavyweight title.

White again confirmed that Lesnar was diagnosed with diverticulitis following a serious bout with mononucleosis. He also confirmed that Lesnar underwent minor surgery in November and also has other undisclosed medical issues. On why more has not been disclosed, White said of Lesnar "He's a private guy. He doesn't want anybody talking about it."

NSAC Clarifies Jones DQ; Update On Hamill Injury

Following a confusing and controversial ending to the fight between Jon "Bones" Jones (9-1) and Matt "The Hammer" Hamill (8-2), Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer clarified the circumstances leading to Hamill's disqualification victory. The fight ended in a disqualification after Jones followed a barrage of strikes with a downward elbow to Hamill's face, opening a cut on the bridge of the nose and forcing the referee to step in. While initially referee Steve Mazzagatti intended to stop the fight to take a point away from Jones for the illegal strike, Hamill was unable to continue.
