The fight was confirmed by Britt's head trainer Buck Grant over Twitter. Both fighters have won their previous fights in the organization, and a victory at this event would position the winner for a run at the 205 pound belt.

Saturday's "Strikeforce: Evolution" card saw 14,749 fans attend the HP Pavilion to watch an exciting night of fights in the promotion's home city of San Jose, Calif. The California State Athletic Commission confirmed the attendance numbers and a live gate of $633,674.50. "Evolution" is now the third-highest attended card in the promotion's short history.

Following a controversial disqualification at inaugural ShoMMA event this past May 15, the CSAC overturned the result of the headlining bout between lightweights Billy Evangelista and “Iron” Mike Aina; declaring the bout a “no decision.” The fight was halted and awarded to Aina following a knee by Evangelista to the upper torso of his downed opponent, referee Herb Dean called an end to the bout declaring a disqualification victory for Aina.
